Challenges and opportunities in the agronomic engineering career of the faculty of agronomy of the Central University of Venezuela in the context of competences curriculum

The competency-based approach is the base of the current Curriculum of the Agricultural Engineering Career of the Faculty of Agronomy of the Central University of Venezuela. The objective of the research was to discuss the main challenges and opportunities of the Agricultural Engineering career of the Faculty of Agronomy of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) in the context of the competency-based curriculum, with the purpose of establishing a theoretical basis that allows implement the necessary curricular adjustments for the academic training of future Agronomy professionals, in line with the challenges of the current agricultural field within the framework of globalization, constant technological evolution, the socio-humanistic perspective and sustainability. A documentary study was carried out that provides a general vision of the aforementioned challenges and opportunities. The competency-based approach allows for the comprehensive training of students, with technological literacy being important, the continuous updating of pedagogical and technological competencies by teachers and the offer of training and professional updating opportunities at the postgraduate level, within a framework of educational quality.
