Occupational health and safety is one of the main areas of Human Resources departments. Both activities were closely related, dealing with rules, procedures, strategies aimed at preserving the physical integrity of workers, in addition to guiding and ensuring personal and material conditions, capable of maintaining an optimal level of health of workers. The objective of this research was to propose an occupational health and safety plan to improve the work environment at the Universidad José Antonio Páez. With a descriptive type of research, with the modality of feasible project. The data collection was carried out by means of a general inspection checklist, a dichotomous questionnaire of 11 items previously submitted to validity and reliability tests and the SWOT matrix, for the diagnosis of the current situation of occupational safety and health. The population consisted of a universe of 301 workers of the Institution, with a non-probabilistic purposive sample of 37 subjects. In addition, the structured observation technique used. Descriptive statistics tools used for data analysis. The information collected made it possible to demonstrate weaknesses and absences of certain factors related to occupational health and safety, among them the promotion, encouragement and support of prevention policies. Based on the above, a proposal was prepared to initiate a restructuring stage regarding occupational health and safety, framed in a preferential attention to optimize work performance.
