ANALYSIS OF FACTORS ASSOCIATED ODONTOPHOBIA IN INTEGRAL CLINIC PATIENTS VII

The dental phobia is a specific anxiety disorder, marked and persistent or irrational touching objects or situations to a dentist or dental office. It can be caused by the smell of the office, the noise produced by certain rotating equipment or a bad experience in the past, where there was some degree of anxiety or even pain. The etiology is multifactorial and in each case varies, so it is necessary to inquire about phobia element for causing the thus adaptation techniques apply in the case. The purpose of this research is to analyze the factors associated with dental phobic patients in Integral Clinic VII, University José Antonio Páez, in the period May to August 2012, to determine the prevalence of this phobia in patients, as well as elements that cause anxiety, to establish techniques that produce a favorable change in the attitude of the patient during the dental visit. We used a questionnaire administered to 36 patients attending consultation, concluding that 64% of patients had unpleasant experiences in the dental office. Of these, 65% were in their teens because of bad treatment by dentists (35%) and anesthesia (33%). Furthermore, it was found that one of the major causes fear that the sound of the turbine, with 33% and also showed that 89% of patients do not know about adaptation techniques in dentistry
