EVALUATION AND PREVALENCE HISTOPATHOLOGICAL LESIONS IN THE INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY "EL PARAMITO" MÉRIDA VENEZUELA

The lesions of the oral mucosa are a heterogeneous groups of disorders. The importance of the differential diagnosis lyes primarily in it prognostic projection and their varying stages of benign or malignant, which determine its therapeutic management. This descriptive study and cross sectional aims to determine the prevalence and histologically evaluate the labial lesions in the indigenous community "El Paramito". This research was conducted in 67 Indians who belong to this ethnic group, with an age ranging from 6 to 70 years. In this population underwent clinical examination accompanied by cytology and biopsy (if required) to determine what kind of lip lesion presented and history in order to collect information about their labor activities, habits and other risk factors that they may cause such injuries. With the data obtained a statistical analysis resulting in 93% (62 sujet) of the study population had some lip injury, recording that benign lesions were most prevalent 89% (59 sujet) was prepared to premalignant 4% (3 sujet). We conclude that although in this study no presence of malignant lip lesions and a low percentage of premalignant lesions was evident, this community is considered a high-risk population suffering from such injuries.
