Current vision of teaching in the UCV Veterinary Medicine career: face-to-face – bimodality

Abstract

The aim of this research is to carry out a state of the art on the teaching-learning process in Veterinary Medicine, with emphasis on the possibilities of integrating blended learning and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). A qualitative, documentary approach was adopted, analyzing 42 units of analysis (peer-reviewed articles, graduate theses, institutional reports and book chapters) published between 2000 and 2023 in Spanish, English and Portuguese, retrieved from Scopus, SciELO, Redalyc, Dialnet and Google Scholar. The results show that veterinary education maintains a strong face-to-face practical component (70-80%), but experiences of this intentional hybrid model are scarce and recent, mostly linked to pandemic contexts. Likewise, the absence of documented experiences of a curricularly planned combined modality at the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the Central University of Venezuela (FCV-UCV) is verified. It concludes with recommendations oriented to the blended curricular design in said faculty, particularly through pilot projects in selected theoretical-practical subjects, under an action-research approach.
